Is it best to jack entire front end and use 2 jack stands to swap alt or is this overkill. I have read the how to article and since I have to do it in a apartment complex I want to be Quick about it . Where are ya alt champions , who's got the best time on the the entire swap?:nonono:

I just did mine last tuesday, 1 hour with a jack stand and air tools. Easiest way is to remove the drive shaft.... But that might not be easy at an apartment complex. Basically, its not coming out without removing the axle or the exhaust. Trust me, I spent a bit of time figuring that out! lol Swivel head roller ratchets really helped with the bolts...

Good luck and have fun!

you don't need to remove the axel.. OR the exhaust.

One side is fine, WITH THE CONDITION that you can FIT under there AND get your arms/hands UP and in the subframe to fenagle the socket/extentions on to the required bolts, etc, etc.

I, personally, would use two JUST to get that extra space.

Mr magician, I'd really like to know how you can get that alt out without removing one of the 2.... I saw no physical space big enough to get it out, and I had a helping hand on that. I also tried to make it come out (since it was dead anyways). I resorted to the axle pull since it had no way to come out.... If I see more responses to back you up, I will retract my comment! :shrug:

Mr. Magician? Responses to back me up? Wow...

Read the HOW-TO... you know... the one that I wrote SIMPLY FOR THE FACT THAT PEOPLE NEEDED ONE.. The one that I pulled a perfectly working alternator for, SIMPLY to illustrate how to do so...

THEN, read the RESPONSES to that thread that all say "thank you, it worked like a charm, etc, etc, etc" There's your "responses to back me up".. :)

Have a great day! :cool::cool::laugh:

to get the alternator out you need to disconnect the tie rod end and then you twist and turn the alternator. headers help with access and you also need to remove the rear roll restrictor ... it isn't to bad ...

Thanks all I'll probably use two stands for safety,50 Minutes IN and out thats pretty fast I won't be near those numbers on my 1st attempt.

I did mine saturday w/o removing the axle, but I have true duals so I had to drop the exhaust to get to the bolts. With the tie rod off & the plastic splash gaurds removed it slid right out. Took me an hour tops w/ going to get the new alt & installing the UDP.

easy check?

easy check?

ok i figured making a new thread would be bad so im putting it in here. how can i check the alternator, with it still in my car?

Go to an auto parts store near you that does "free alternator testing" or you can test the voltage while the engine is running. You want over 13V with the car running if it is below 12V odds are it's the alternator.
