I have never been on a road trip this long with any car, that alone my Contour. The longest it has been is 5 hr ~400 mile trip to Carlisle PA from Upstate NY.

The Trip is One way: Upstate, NY to Las Vegas, NV.

New Brakes, New Battery, Both fans working High and Low, Oil Change, new rubber, AC is good, stereo is good. Im also bringing all fluids with me.

Without the ability to predict the future, what can I do to arm myself?

I leave Saturday.

As for the water pump, fuel pump and alternator: The first owner had the car for most of its 63,000 miles. Its looks and runs great (I know it doesnt mean anything) but im sure it was serviced when needed.

Any rational help will be great.

id sya make yourself a emergency kit:
-fire exstiguisher
-full gas can
-coolant
-few quarts of oil
-tool kit

things like that. mechanically, the car sounds like it will hold up fine, but you never know what youll run into out on the road.

Just one request, when you get out there, could you find me a 67 or 68 Mustang please?

Keep an eye on your temp gauge, just incase that waterpump gives... Coolant a good colour? Cruise working fine? lol
Just make sure that lumbar is fine tuned and you should be good!
Maybe a AAA membership.... Just in case!
Have a good trip!

Do you plan on making any stops to sleep?
Don't push yourself beyond your limits. If you're falling asleep at the wheel, pull over and get some rest.

Make sure you have a pretty good variety of music. The same old stuff will bore you to tears (or to sleep!!)

Thats a Big CHECK on that stuff! Thanks

Always keep a good Eye on my guages, my insurance has road side assistance. Seat adjustments will occur. Ill tap the collant for color.

Ill keep my eyes open for Wild Horses of that nature.

Check your spare tire pressures, AND rubber condition.!!!!

Ray, those are two good things! Im pretty sure the tred is fine, just have to check pressure.

Plan on three days should be fine. We have two cars and three people, ones my mom. She would drive around the world twice if she could....she's crazy! in a good way.

Thanks Guys this is the support i needed. :o

HAHAHAH :D
If you're going to leave your car in the sun, don't leave the condoms in there! +100 degrees = bad!

That is a good thing to check. I had to use my spare and it was really low. It was almost pointless to even use it. From now on out I take a full size spare with me on long trips.

Good luck and drive safe.

Tire pressure gauge and a portable air compressor if you have one. I always keep one in my trunk. Don't need to worry about my spare pressure that way.

Zip ties, heavy string and/or bungee cord....never know what's going to break, fall off, get smashed by road debris, etc. especially on the highway.

Good luck and have fun!

Did anyone mention it, yet?
Jumper cables?
Cell phone, charger, and spare (if any) batteries.
a SPARE KEY TO YOUR CAR!!!!!!!!!!! (don't get caught 2000 miles from home with NO KEY!!)

Water and/or flavored beverages. Twinkies. Truck stops are expensive. No caffiene except for the last leg of the trip if you bring any. Credit card. Sleeping bag or blanket.

Honestly, that's all I brought to SZ (though I was in a caravan with better prepared people) along with clothes, camera, cell and laptop.
