Side Skirt Clean Up

Ok so I have these SE side skirts im gonna apply to my car. The only problem is their green. I was just wonderiing what grit I need to sand them down with? Also i have the brackets for the job but i need some more of the rivets. Any clue where i could get these? I dont know if the stealership sells them or not?

like you, i just acquired se skirts for my stique. i have not yet tackled cleaning them up (mine need some sanding to smooth off scrapes and digs). then, after cleaning, i plan to rattle can paint them silver frost.

i have the mounting pieces, but no rivets or any other way to mount. so i was thinking of using stainless steel nuts and bolts. also appears that some drilling will be required as it appears (from an admittedly rough "holdup" of a skirt on the drivers side) that mystiques do not have all the holes necessary to mount up skirts.

just my thoughts......would welcome your or anyone elses ideas or comments.....

Hardware store sells rivets. I just bought a rivet gun that came with 60 assorted rivets for $10. Additional packs of rivets (40 or 50) are $4.99. There's a how to on the front page of this site.

As for sanding, don't go too rough or you will be able to see the scratches through the paint. I would say lightly sanding them with 400-600 grit should be good. Just scuff it up so the new paint will stick, and wash thoroughly before painting.

Just my 2 cents if you look back into the old forum people have mounted sides without using the brackets. They used stainless steel screws to secure them. I haven't tried it yet but I think that is the way I will secure my sides when I put them on. Doesn't seem to hard putting the brackets on just something about drilling those holes in the side of the car......

All I did was line up the side skirts, marked the holes and used selftapping screws and washers. Never had a problem with it. Even held when the dealer got one caught onto something.
