I am trying to replace my Axle Half-Shaft because of a bad CV joint. When I tried to get the bolt that holds the Tie Rod on, it was corroded and I ended up stripping it. I decided to cut the bolt off with a hacksaw, and then replace the Tie Rod End. Now I can't get the Tie Rod End off. I have a long 24mm wrench on the Tie Rod end and the longest 15 mm wrench on the Tie Rod itself, but it won't budge. I'm afraid I'm now stripping the 15 mm groove in the Tie Rod.

Any advice? I have sprayed it with PB Blaster. Should I now try to replace the whole Tie Road? Unfortunately, my Haynes manual doesn't seem to have any instructions on how to do that.

I would really appreciate any advice....I am in a complete jam. Thanks!

how far on is the tie rod? if its all the way on you can just go to an alignment rack and have them do it. but if its on a little and cant get it off, then you might have to toe it or something.

Thanks

Thanks

I appreciate the reply. My handyman who is working on a project on our house just happened to come along when I was struggling some more (I used a heat gun...still didn't work). My handyman suggested I get a pipe wrench and he grabbed his big pipe wrench from his car, and finally with all the torque from the pipe wrench, it finally came off.....the inside of the tide rod end was pretty rusty, so no wonder it was so hard. My handyman was suprised at how hard it was to come off.

Thanks for the reply!

ya thats wut i did. pipewrench. i had my buddy get one of the pipewrenchs and he pushed one way and i used another one and pushed the other way. it worked and i got both off and put new ones off

Those tie rod ends are horrible to get off on any Contour/Cougar. The last one I pulled off took forever to get off. It was extremely difficult to turn almost the entire time I was loosening it (while red hot).

LOL leave it in the knuckle and lossen the jam nut. Then spin the end off. Not that hard. If you dno't loosen the jam nut with it in the knuckle it makes the job about 10 million times harder

I'm glad that everything worked out for ya. Sometimes messing with those tie rods can be a ******.
