Im looking at a new trans for my 99 SVT but its a pre 98 trans.
To make it work will have to use the pre 98 rods, or can I take the things I need off the 99 and swap them out? Or a better question would be what will be better and stronger?

thanks
Matt

You thought wrong. Anywho the Diff. is stornger on the pre98. Might be easier to pull the internals and swap to the 98+ housing. I'm sure Terry will email me the answer. Hope yor're getting a a great deal on the trans. I'd just send your stock one out to be freshened up.

Only thing diff. about 95s is the OBD 1, vac. secondaries, chrome strip on bumper and lit ext. keyhole.

youll need all of the rod assy that goes with it. The rod goes directly into the trans from the bottom where as the cable shift is on the top of the trans. You can see where the rod attaches to in this picture, just to the right of where the axle inserts.

MTX. To fit a rod shift in place of a cable shift trans is NOT just the trans or shift linkage...You need the rear roll restrictor bracket from a rod shift that will take the bushed support arm from the shift box in the floor. The trans mount off of a cable shift will NOT fit a rod shift(bolt spacing). The brake lines will need a tweek near the trans and the reverse light switch on a rod shift is a 4 pin(reverse and neutral position switch)Pinout is NOT the same so a unique switch has to me 'made up' as the cable switch will NOT fit a rod tower...few other bits aswell but that is the basics..I've done two back to rod from cable..not just a bolt in I can assure you!TH
