My 99 Toreador Red CSVT has 93k and is having a mid-life crisis. The issue: ditch it and take the money and run or upgrade it.

I bought it with 29k in 03 right around when I joined this site. Ive seen the topic back then but now Im the one posting it. The reason Im latching on is most here agree this car's dollar/fun ratio and not to mention cheap insurance rating keeps me coming back for more. However, I cant hide some of its cosmetic problems anymore.

The leather is fine, dash is pretty good, carpet pretty good. New brakes, clutch, engine performance good.

However, the sunroof cloth is starting to sag, the sunroof/night lamp dome has a cracked bracket-needs replacing, as well as a headlight switch bracket replacement, the cigarette lighter comes all the way out too. Hurricane Wilma whacked my hood and fender paint job about 1.5 years ago. Since is deteriorating under the Florida sun and cracking.

Part of the issue is it needs some botox and the other is my want to upgrade to a more powerful car a la 05+ Mustang GT or other newer cars that have come on the market in the last 5 or so years.

Im open to the idea of s/c or turbo w/ a cold air intake and fixing up some of the cars issues. Im into it because I dont necessarily want another car payment just yet.

However with no experience in this department I dont know what kind of cost Im looking at and how that weighs. Should I just take the value of the car and what I would have invested in upgrades and just go buy a new car or stick it out?

All thoughts appreciated! :)

i would personally go for the mustang but that my .02 and simply because of production numbers parts and upgrades are so much easier to find and have a selection over

I say figure what it would cost to get the car the way you want it, then multiply by two. If you're comfortable with that figure, soldier on. If not, time for a new steed.

So paint and some little int. pieces a CEGer could get you cheap from a JY? Seems simple to me.

Yep, stop by the salvage yards and find what you need to fix it up. Give it another 6 months and see how it feels. I'm staying out of payment land myself and will consider a used 'stang GT in about 3 years.

you could fix it cheap and drive a nice car with no car payment, but I wouldn't turbo it. If you are already considering buying a new car, You will get bored after you dump a bunch of money into it.

Thanks good idea for the interior pieces from JY.

But I am serious about putting in turbo or sc. Ive seen a few other guys put their dyno numbers in the Dyno/Drag & Forced Induction forums and I was impressed. I dont need a Ferrari but something to give a little extra scoot with all the newer stuff out there would be nice.

For sure. I can even sell you my ADC turbo kit if you are really interested. Im hating my car at the moment.

Totally Im interested in both, I live right by you two if you ever want to take an afternoon stroll over to the JY. Ive always been a die-hard car guy but never got into the tuner aspect of my own cars and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do it. Ive done light mods nothing big yet.
