A/C issue

So my A/C has never worked right, and now that its getting hot out, I am interested in figuing out why its acing so strange.

So here is the issue, I had it recharged. Drove the car home, wanted to make sure it all worked. Turned the A/C on, heard A/C kick on, run for about 5 seconds, kick off, then back on again and so on and so forth. Sat in the car, and it just never got cold. I let it run for about 10 minutes.

About a week later I went to turn it on again and it didnt turn on, I presume there is a leak somewhere. But thats the 2nd of my two problems.

1) Compressor kicks on, but A/C doesnt get cold at all.

2) Leak somewhere

My guess is, the solution for the leak is closely related to why the system never cools air off. I was thinking the condenser, but I dont know a lot about A/C systems to make any more of an educated guess.

Any thoughts?

For the third time LOL...bring it over and we will put a black light under it and see what it going on. I have read most of the leaks are around the accumulator.

yes bill, I know. But I dont want to spend $40 in gas to ask a question and look ask something.

I want multiple opinions, there is obviously a reason that it doesnt get cold.

It has to be a leak, a leak like that most likely can't be repaired with a leak stop liquid. You may have to replace some major A/C parts. I could never get my A/C to work properly after charging, draining it, etc. But like you, I never got it checked out.

The accumulator commonly leaks. My Mystique had the Compressor leak from the O ring seal in the case. Replacement compressor from Motorcraft, $200 at Rock Auto. Found an o-ring for old compressor later, now sits as spare:) Soap bubbles (dish soap diluted and painted on with a brush) showed the leak.

as always either read up on A/C systems and get the proper tools to repair it yourself if you can or pay to have it diognosed and fixed ...

and again you can't just refill or dump R-134A into the system ...
