guys ive had my car on the road for 1 month and i have a bunch of problems with it, the previous owner told me he changed the oil right before he sold me the car so i didnt both to really check it yet (stupid) anyways, engine started pinging yesterday and the cel began to flash, i was 2 qts low.

anyways, so im pretty much screwed ive got to use the little money i have saved for college to repair my beloved svt.

so im definetly going to go with a 3L rather than another 2.5.

ive been snooping around in here, looking at what people are using and i just figured id make a thread and ask for suggestions.

so wheres the best place to look for the block?

im open to any other suggestions and trying to do this for as little money as i can.

i am actually the last person to say this but that little button on the blue bar near the top of the screen, its called the search button. use it. a used 3L with low miles id say 350 and for the power increase, lets just say you'll be happy

ive been searching and i i havent found the exact things im looking for price and hp increase, i dunno maybe i dont know how to search thats why i asked here.

Figure about a grand for motor and parts to do it yourself. More it you have someone else do it. Not many ever exceed 200whp unless they do extensive other mods like porting, polishing, and quality intake/exhaust. However, some freak motors are out there that do 200+ on a NA 3L.

www.lkqcorp.com for a salvage motor. Expect $350-$450. 2002+ blocks have updated pistons I believe. If you want to keep SVT upper you need to port match the 3L heads and either JB weld or use plates. Someone on here makes them (chime in please). If you use 3L upper intake you need to modify the fuel rail. Check the 3L sticky for part numbers etc. All the info is out there, just spend some time browsing and searching ("3L swap").

awsome news........

i graduated highschool today.....

got over $400 from family/neighbors/whatnot

and my parents said they would cover the cost of the engine repair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEEEEEHHAAW!

sorry im just wicked excited and my parents are so happy that i graduated because i was so close to failing this year, anyway, my dad really is against the 3L because he wants to "Keep it SVT". so im not sure whats going to happen.

either way, striaght pipes/maggy resonator, and 20% tint and happening soon as well.

Your parents are going to pay, but do they know what it's going to run you for the swap?

I bought my block on eBay (2001 Taurus, 19k miles, $300) and shipped it over to Buckshot Motorsports to be prepped. $1500 for the block, prep and shipping around. $600 for the Torsen LSD. $600 for EVERY gasket on the motor, head bolt set, updated shift forks, misc. fluids, etc.

Could I have done it cheaper? Yes. Would I go back and do it cheaper if I had the chance? No.

I wanted a quality build and my lack of knowledge and resources to build up the motor myself brought the cost up. Yeah, you can do it for $500 or so with a junkyard motor, no prep, or additional upgrades, but I wanted to do it right the first time around.

39k miles later and she still purs like a kitten.

What did $1500 in block prep get you? This swap can be done way cheaper with stock durability. For that kind of money you could blow up 3-4 salvage motors.

tell your dad that a 3L is just a bored out version of the SVT.

buy a used block. send it to chris at 3Lduratec.com (chris is my friend he lives about 45 mins from me, has done TONS of swaps, and has many customers in town with his 3L motors installed)

send him the SVT heads with it. he could put the timing components and SVT cams into the 3L heads, port the heads for the SVT lower and upper intake manifolds. so you've basically just bored out a SVT motor, and gave it better oil drainbacks. visually its the same engine, and it will make more power, and last longer!

of course chris gets what he deserves $$$ wise but i would trust him any day with my stuff, and i'm anal!~
