What's up guys-- To be brief, I have noticed within the last year of a sound coming from (seemingly) the rear end of my car- At slow speeds you can basically 'hear' the revolutions of the wheels and even at higher speeds tends to do so. When I use the brake the sound gets a little louder also. The other sound coming from the rear happens when I hit a slight bump or pothole (usually not potholes, especially in Michigan, they are devestating haha) but it sounds like something is really loose in the back and causes a thud. My guess would be a blown strut but I think I would have noticed that a long time ago and they were replaced within the last 20,000.. But who knows..

Does anyone have any ideas for the rolling sound at least? All ideas would be appreciated,

Blake

Did you change tires around that time. I just switch to 16 inch (from 14) and going from 195 to 205 tires, I can really hear the tire sounds.

No not specifically-- I'm nearly 100% positive it's not tire sounds because the rolling sound I described reminds me of a noise that dirty bearings sound like.. (I used to play roller hockey, the way a bearing sounds to me is kind of familiar, I don't know if you guys can relate to that). In other words, it sounds mechanical, in so few of words

I get the thud, and it tends to thud again a few times as it bounces around after the hole. (what it is im not 100%sure, though i've heard swaybar links)

doesn't seem to be the exhaust or heat sheilding though in my case anyway.

drive in a parking garage thats the best way to hear noises ur car makes, if it thuds when u hit bumps its prolly the piston inside the strut bottoming out a hub would thud if it were really worn out but u would have to be so worn your tire phsyically wobbled enough to smash the bearing off something and rolling would sound like a helicopter, if your ever in westland MI bring it by my shop i'd b more than happy to inspect it for you. again, check the rear swar bar links, they can look fine but if you take things apart you will see where they come apart at the pivot point on the swar bar side of the link, there is also a bushing that gets sandwiched between the link/control arm/nut. if you need factory part numbers let me know year model and engine and i'll post it.

x2 billion,

And you better not be outside enjoying the eye candy while doing this:laugh:

Haha- I was at home in Northville this weekend so I forgot about this, and now that i'm at school again it's going to be tough.. I need to jack up the car (with no jack) so I can check it, which I don't think will be anytime soon-- But I need to get around to this--

Do you guys really think that's the problem? How much will it cost to fix (outside putting it in the shop and doing it yourself VS. putting it in the shop :dreading:. )

I have a '99 SVT 2.5 (sadly still 2.5 lol )

i went into work (of course we're closed, parts computer is running an update, could not get in, i will check tomm. in the am and pm the part number to you, sorry could do it sooner.

had to go into work (i'm working on my 95 se), computer was a working. rear sway bar links are F5RZ-5A486-A, the bushing that goes int between the link and the lower control arm are F5RZ-5493-B and your sway bar bushing should be F5RZ-5493-Z. hope that helps!

Well, just dropped it off at the stealership so I will wait for the call and see what they have to say, I'll update what the actual problem was when I find out

As of right now they claim something with the rear pad was loose, causing the sound each rotation of the wheel. They said they will fix it and drive it and see if the sound goes away- I have yet to hear back from them haha
