My car just got keyed, only on one door oddly enough. WTF? What do you guys think the best course of action is to get the silver fronst back to its previous condition? Cheaper the better obviously.

I would think that a used door from the junk/salvage yard would be cheaper than a repaint, and probably would match the rest of the car better due to the age of the paint.

it depends on how deep the key went.. did it go all the way through the paint?

if you're unsure I would try to buf it out with some nice compound

I am not sure that it went through the paint, but it did break the surface. I dont see metal. Can you guys recommend some good compound(s) to use.

Havent been in this new place even a month and this happened. Lovely.

todas, what might you think a good body shop would charge for this? I have seen fades on the road when the light hits them right, its not pretty.

if you've never buffed a car.. don't do it yourself.

take the car to three body shops and get estimates. pick the one you like best and have them do it.

that way if anything gets screwed up, you have them to blame :)

something like that should cost in the area of $50-150 depending on the depth and lenth of the scratch

Run your finger nail across the scratch. If you nail gets caught you will not be able to buff it out. There are body shops that do touch ups for cheap and it looks great after they are done. But to tell you the truth the best option is to get the whole door repainted. Good luck and post pics of the damage.

I'm guesing it's not light enough to get buffed out. I'm sure the entire door would need to be resprayed and blended. Yay for insurance. Someone key the front bumper on my SVT and my entire SE.

There should be a special section of hell for car-keyers. They should be unable to move and hundreds of demons should come by with keys, cutting their skin.

I'm just sayin'...

Car keyers are gay, but seriously, everyone should have comprehensive insurance on their car if they love their car. I pay $140 extra for 6 months of coverage and it covers all vandalism and theft. Collision is expensive and that is why I don't have it, but everyone should have comprehensive!

Well, the detail shop couldnt do much for me and the body shop wanted 900+ dollars to get the door blended. Not worth it in my opinion. My last option and who really knows if its a good one is to find a door at a yard. Not really thinking the paint will match up all that well but I guess there is a chance I could get lucky. This car just isnt worth enough to be throwing a bunch of money at it anymore. Thanks guys for the advice.
