Hello everybody I'm new to this forum. I have a 99 black CSVT, and i'm slowing doing some mods to it. I will be posting some pictures soon as I get my camera out and its a nice day. Anyways I have noticed that a lot of you guys have removed the ugly mat of fiberglass insulation that is buttoned on the under side of the hood. Does it hurt to remove that? and is there anything I need to add in place of that?

No it doesnt hurt to remove it. In fact, Ford actually decontented it all together before discontinuing the vehicle.

Even with mine removed and a turbocharger underneath the hood, it didnt have any negative effects on the paint.

Welcome SVTrazz. :)

I don't have one and have had no issues with my paint either.

It is also there to snuff out engine fires - I would leave it. Without it you will also get a lot more ice on your hood in the winter - if that applies to you.

i used to have a older truck with mangled hood insulation and it started a couple of fires iirc from it getting so hot and falling apart.

also, idk about this business about too much ice on the hood, but back east i had a bigger problem with rodents living inside the insulation trying to stay warm in the winter months. that too can be dangerous because all the filth and gunk brought in from squirrels/mice can heat up and catch fire.

hmm - the insulation on my car remind me or a dense semi flexable fiber. Do what you want - my 3L is loud enough with it on there...

Well I removed the insulation, and i'm happy with how it looks. The only thing that I noticed is the little bubbles of foam that overflow on the seams, I cut one off and there wasnt any paint underneath them. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Took mine off and never put it back on, mice were living in it so I just took it off. But now I have to deal with it being painted badly maybe some day I can fix that...

I take mine off during the summer. Then put it on in the winter.

Since i did my headers. My car takes a bit longer to warm up in the winter. So having the insulation helps a bit.
my .02 cents

Also it does help reduce engine noise.
