ok i am a little new i been visiting for a long time and finally got approved to poat something here but after my question i feel i will be banned

i just rebuilt my 98CSVT 2.5L and i got the heads professionally ported and polished (no other mods) and i installed msds headers and now i cant get my car to run for the life of me btw i did install the mil eliminators (found that searching for answers) any help on this issue would be great,

problem: hard time keeping it running on cold start even worse in the winter time but since thats almost gone i hope for better but after it warms up it runs great (sorta not like its suppose to or it did) i think i may need tuning on the ECU

problem two: my engine sounds like its ready come out of the car , now is there such a thing as faulty motor and trans mounts when i took the engine out the mounts all four were changed out my me and then i did the rebuild and now i get really hard rocking, i just wish there is a better way to explain it, i just really hope its not my tranny going out cause the wife would kill me

With out more detail (any CELs?), here's my guesses:

About the engine noise.. it sounds like you need to align your powertrain.

For the running problems... sounds like a vacuum line or something didn't get plugged back in. Check your vacuum, check that the IAT has its connector, check that the EGR valve has it's vacuum line.

I wouldn't think porting the head would require a tune. Resetting the ecu should be fine.
 
CEL??? no sure what that is or maybe i do just need it defined

heres whats happening

6am i start the car for one my throttle is stuck so i break it free(ez fix)
now i cant get it to idle and when i give it some gas the rpms jump really high and then drop after a few secondsand sometimes it idles so low it shuts off

now just driving it a challenge at first with a cold running engine

1st gear and well all of them

i put it in first and it sounds like im engaging some automatic cause the engine jerks just putting it gear

then i move, no problem everything is fine (if the enigine is warm)
but as soon as i let off the gas and i dont put the clutch in it feels as though the engine jerks forward but i dont understand all mounts are brand new. into second i get the same thing as though i was shifting some slap-stick automatic cause its kinda abrupt,

i know what it feels like when u loose a throw-out bearing and its not that

i wish there was more to describe without someone to actually be here to see whats going on

its very frustrating

does that help any?
 
Just because your motor mounts are new doesn't mean you correctly aligned them when you put them back in. That would explain why things are moving around so much. Check all your vac. lines for leaks. That would explain the rough start and jumpy idle.
 
Well getting into 1st gear on a cold start up is hard somtimes even here in SW FL it will be sorta hard..Need to run the right trans fluid Ford honey is most reccomended..
 
My guess is you have a massive vac leak at the intake manifolds. you just did a PnP, so be sure that too much material wasn't taken out & your gaskets are sealing properly. Additionally, make sure you got SVT gaskets & not the smaller ones for the regular V6. If you had the work done, check the part numbers on your invoice & call the Ford dealer or part store that carries the brand that were used. They should be able to tell you if they were SVT or not.

The engine rocking problem might be the mis-fire from running excessively lean or the plug wire routing may be off. Happens more than you'd think since the coil leads are not a direct reflection of the plug locations.

Could also be a bit of air in the hydraulic line for the clutch.

By the way, I note this response may be a bit late, but the info I offer may be helpful to others who search & find this thread.

ok all of ur suggestion help but i know theres not a vac leak cause i had one when it first got built up and i corrected that so im sure there isnt any others butill look further to see it i can find anything

the one thing that u all had mentioned was gaskets, i had gotten all my gaskets from Ford and they were SVT or atleast for my engine when the PnP was done the machine shop had the gaskets and matched them up

air in the clutch line is possible, ive been thinking of it but havnt had the time to bleed it

mounts: how do u align a mount with no adjustment

At first thinking it was mounts i took one out to look at it and saw the the mounts have a hole in the 5/8 inch (not sure) dia range and the bolt that got through it it in the 1/2 inch (not sure) dia range so theres a big gapping space between the two and i think that would explain the rocking of my engine btw these are the tranny mounts im talking about so i looked at the old ones and they are the same so i went to a junk yard and found a V6 sport 5sp and found the same thing and so im thinking it cant be the problem but ill talk pics and let you know so u can see the pic im seeing

i have a guy at work who is machining me a pair to fill in the gap on the mounts

There's a Rotunda tool that replaces the front roll restrictor which aligns your powertrain. It's mentioned in both the Haynes manual and the Ford CD. If you plan on doing alot of your own work, then buy it.... if not, then check with the CEG'ers in your area to see if someone will let you borrow it.

I had the engine out once when my head gaskets went (bloody Euro V6's) and the sub-frame had to be re-aligned. Luckily I had a Ford dealer take it out and put it back in who actually knew what they were doing. :)
