Dark day for my buddies 1998 SVT contour 106K miles all stock except K&N filter....a few months ago he pushed it hard on the freeway and after that around 2000-3500rpm on light to mid throttle the engine has been knocking. As of today he picked up the car and the diagnostic is the intake manifold control runner connector was not connected....plugged it in and still the same knocking sound....they concluded the source to be #6 cylinder worn rod bearing and the piston is slapping the head....

So my point is he's going to need either a Rebuild or brand new engine. Would a 3.0 swap be worth it rite now? would the stock be worth it with the warranty on it. 36K/3 year

I contacted steve at tousley and he quoted me $3100 with the core charge for the stock motor. Any Suggestions?!?!

The car still runs but was told any day to a year the rod will finally be done and come outa the block

Help!!!

Me personally I would go with the 3.0 swap. I had a buddy with the same motor and jus a few mods and was running low 13's in a quarter mile with no nos, turbo or supercharger. But the stock svt is fine to. It all depends on if you want power or not.

Without question, I would reccomend the 3L.

For the price of the stocker from Steve at Tousley, you could have a 3L with a built transmission w/lsd, assuming you do the work yourself(the transmission built by Terry Haines).

More power.

No warranty with the 3L, but I got my engine for $450 and threw in upgraded rod bearings, which, imho, was better than a warranty.

Plus, I learned a lot while I did it.

Ok where do i find the 3L engine??
