If there was, we wouldn't have companies like odometergears.com, and sunroofgears.com in business for us. Nobody makes metal gears for our cars.. period.
Be my guest to do so, though, and I will buy the first 10!
I also asked the guys from sunroofgears.com if they produced a metal gear because I purchased on their gears and it stripped out after only a week of use, fortunately they gave me a new gear and told me to loosend the motor bolts and put a wedge between the motor and the gear body to force the gears to mesh and re-tighten the motor mount bolts. I did that and I haven't had any problem since but then again it's only been about three months so we will see what time and use brings me, I am hoping that it will be a permanent fix but I am not holding my breath.
There was an attempt a while back to machine some metal gears, but the designer/fabricator (can't remember who) said it was too difficult to accurately machine gears with such small teeth. That pretty much killed the discussion at the time, but I think there would definitely be a small market around here if someone could overcome the problems.
I purchased 2 gears from sunroofgears, one for the sunroof and one to have extra just in case....Its has been about 9 months and still no problems with the gear...
