Having trouble finding where to put this filter that goes in line for the A/C lines. We have already pulled the compressor out and reinstalled the new one. Took the Dryer out as well, but it was a big pain in the ass trying to get the lines to unattach from each other. Was hopeing that when we pulled the dryer out we'd find a spot for the filter, but to no avail. Just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on where to put this little filter? I've seen a number of spots but don't want to start ripping the system apart to find where to put this thing. Anyone know where this thing goes?

What does it look like? There is a tiny plastic filter called the orifice tube(image link)
that goes in the evaporator. You might not need to put that in, unless the compressor had the "black death" wear residue.

Yeah thats the filter alright! Do you have a pic of where it should go? It's hard to go on descriptions alone.

Lift the power steering fluid reservoir up and gently tie it out of the way. The orifice tube is located in the metal (aluminum) refrigerent line that goes into the evaporator. Just need two wrenches to back the nut off the fitting. I found that disconnecting the PCM connector and tying that harness off gave me a lot more room to work.

Once disconnected, the orifice tube can usually be grabbed with a good pair of needle nose pliers and pulled out. It is a very snug fit, so be careful not to booger it up when you try to remove it. If in doubt, use the proper extraction tool.

When reinstalling the new tube, lubricate the o-rings with your proper refrigerent oil.

Do not skip replacing the orifice tube or you'll likely be sorry.

I had good luck without changing that orifice tube on my Mystique. Might as well change it if you have it. However, you do need the refrigerant oil. The amount to add depends on which parts you changed out. It said what exactly, in the service manual. Do you want me to check (tomorrow)?

Install went off without a hitch, except for the fact that I got to use it once and now it's too cold to use it anymore... :( Anyways. I have been piecing a manual together that describes the methods and steps I took to remove my A/C compressor, dryer, and orfice filter. I'll also include some photos. Hope to get it done sometime soon, I was working hardcore on it, now I've kinda featherd off on the whole thing, I get it done here eventually. Service manual might just be easier for some of you, but the hanes manual i had didn't really tell me too much at all, or have any good pics.

Might I request that you get that dryer how-to written up ASAP! (please?)

Yo! Brapple, what happened to your how to? :D

give me some time, been very busy lately and haven't had time to :P

like I said before I will most likely have the chance on a nice snowy day

but for the dryer to be changed all you need to do is follow the service manual

How To Done!!!!

How To Done!!!!

Okay I'm working on putting the install paper up on my webpage, warning, the regular .doc is 67mb, and the .zip is about 23mb. Only 10 pics @ 640x480, so kinda surprises me, but oh well. I hope you have a broadband connection! I'll post the links as soon as there up>

Please leave me feedback on the How-To, and let me know if it needs some tweaking or if you have some suggestions.... I may go back and add some pics at a later date possibly.
