OBD Connector

Ok, so my check engine light came on. While I am at a stop my RPM's bounce from 400 - 900 sometimes when I first stop but then smooth out. I had a friend with a OBD computer try and hook up to it and pull the codes but it isnt working. Its not able to see the car. I guess its supposed to immediately power up after you enter the VIN into it and start talking to the car and it isnt. Any ideas why that may be happening. I searched old posts and havent found anything like this so I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone.

Plug it in with the "window" (little opening if the plug has one) on the plug facing the outside of the car. Ignition must be "ON" (not "ACC" or "OFF").

If this doesn't work, check if the fuse or wiring is an issue.

Does your friend have a ford also? You can have your car off and still plug in. When you turn the car on it should connect. Unless of course his connector isn't PWM compliant.
