I need some help with codes on my 95 contour 2.5 m/t 110,000 miles. I have replaced the EGR valve and I'm still getting the following codes:
172 Lack of heated oxygen sensor switches indicates lean (bank # 1)
136 Lack of heated oxygen sensor switch during KOER self-test,
indicates lean (Bank #2).
332 Insufficient exhaust gas recirculation flow detected.
543 Fuel pump secondary circuit failure
The car runs great but the check engine light is driving me nuts. Do I need to replace both o2 sensors and the DPFE sensor? Where is the DPFE located? I also have a new fuel pump, should I replace it?
Thanks, TEDININDY

EGR valves seldom fail. Wasted your money on that one. Usually, it's either clogged throttle body ports or a faulty DPFE sensor.

As for the O2 codes, you have an intake tract leak. Check your intake tube and the rest of the intake for cracks, loose clamps, etc. If there are no leaks, clean the MAF sensor. If these codes come back, you probably need intake manifold gaskets.

The 543 can be ignored if the engine has been stalled.

As Steve alluded to, O2 sensors aren't USUALLY going to all go bad at once.

Now, that isn't to say that one went bad 25,000 miles ago, and the other went bad recently.. This all depends on how quickly you recovered these codes. It isn't IMPOSSIBLE that both O2's are bad, but it would be the LAST thing on my list of "what to change" when trying to remedy these codes.

Ray, those are 'lean" codes, pretty much the same as P0171 & P0174 on OBD-II cars which virtually are never the sensors themselves.

I agree.. which is why I said I wouldn't go after them to correct the codes. It IS possible they failed, but not likely.

I think I was simply saying the same thing you just did, in a different manner.

My check engine light drives me nuts too! The DPFE is located under the EGR valve. It is a rectangular box... either gray metal or black plastic.... and it has a connector along with a place for 2 hoses to slide onto the bottom of it.
