jury duty...

not a bad one but I was called and by the time we where in the jury room we had to go to lunch ... we came back and they forgot about us since the case was settled out of court over lunch ...

the second time I was called and asked questions but I may have been going on a business trip and they are very last minute ... well the lawyer finally just plain asks me if I want to be there so I answer honestly .... no I don't want to be there, so I was free to go .... interesting part was it was a land/house dispute/case between the current and previous owner in a neighbor hood that I basically grew up in ...

i hope i dont get called...i just filled out the form and had to put down that my brother was in the coast guard and that my major in college was criminal justice, im hoping one of those two things will get me off the hook! haha

I was summoned for jury duty twice at the end of last year. The first time, I called the night before and my name was on the list for the people that didn't need to show up.

A few months later, I was summoned again, and had to show up. Spent about 2 hours there, signing in, watching jury duty videos, etc. Not long after, everyone (40+ people) was sent home for the day. Both cases that day settled.

Free day off from work.

i was called for Grand Jury back in 95.
spent the morining listening to info about serving on the jury.
the jurors were to show at the courthouse in boston at 7 am.
get on a bus and shipped to an undisclosed location.
we would be returned to boston at about 5 pm
they said that it would most likely take a minimum of 6 weeks.

then the judge came in and started the whole "if you cant serve come tell me why"
i had just started my 2nd year at college, it was only 1 week into the semester.
the girl in fron of me told the judge "i just started pre-law at harvard and i am 1 week into the new school year and missing 6 weeks would ruin my year in school"
the judge "Ok, your education is more important than this, go home"

me "i just started my 2nd year at Umass Dartmouth for Mech. Eng. and i cant afford to miss any class time"
judge "so, you feel that school is more important than serving your country?"

i was pissed! just because i wasnt a law student, my education wasnt important, fugger.
after a little arguing, he finaly let me leave.
i have not been called for jury duty since *knocks on noggin*

I got called for a medical malpractice case. It turned out that one of the witnesses was a ear nose and throat doctor that my mom went to (he wasn't the guy malpracticing.) They asked if I knew him and would it affect my opinion of the case. I said yes and probably not, but I could never be sure when the time came. Got sent home and enjoyed the rest of my afternoon.

I kept getting called in college! Give me a break! Who had time for that? Kept writing in stating why I couldn't. Now that I'm out I haven't been contacted.

I got called in college for NH. The form had some exceptions on it, and college student was one of them, so I happily checked that box off and didn't have to show.
I wouldn't mind doing it now though.

One of my co-workers had to do Grand Jury for 6 months. I think every couple weeks, he had to show for Thursdays and Fridays.
He said they would hear cases and then decide if they needed to go to court or not (something like that, I'm not smare with details). He always had interesting cases to share with us.

Yeah, they like to get college students for some reason. I got summoned while in college in MA, but my primary residence was still in NH. I sent in the form stating I was in college and couldn't afford the time.

MA did the same thing to me while I was in college I don't understand how they could summon out of staters going to school there. Luckly each time they wanted me I was home working co-ops.

I got summoned last year, the date was a few days before final exams. Turns out a highschool friend of mine was there too, which was cool. One set was summoned to hear a case and the rest of us were let go at noon. Was a waste of a day for me.

well my whole family has been sick lately (i dont live at home but im always around them) so i started feeling shatty after about an hour of waiting around the jury room, so i went up to the trial court officer and just rescheduled...but as far as i can tell jury duty is boring as hell, haha
