Headlight Refurb?

My headlight lenses have finally began to fade and yellow. I've seen the price of replacements, and it is currently not an option. What can I do to "gussy" them up?

Start here.

If replacing is not an option. Then please, please follow the how-to for the wet sanding. If it's really starting to go, then please, start with 800 grit sand paper and be very thorough.

For starters, try some Plastic Polish and a PowerBall Mini. If that doesn't cut it, try some Mag Polish... then resort to sanding.

I wetsanded (1000/ 2000 grit + soapy water) mine, and it really took out the yellowing. They are still hazed, but I believe the polish is supposed to take that out.

Wet sand from 800 to 2000 using the 1000, 1500 inbetween. Then use a cleaner wax to pick up the inperfections. After that you'll want to use a plastic POLISH, then seal it with wax. It should look new, or newer especially at night.

Before you wax, and please hear me on this, CLEAR COAT the lights. If you don't, you'll be back in the same yellowed hazy position in six months. I speak from experience.

Clear coat? Like paint clear coat? Any brand names to look for?

Paint clear coat, yes. Anything specifically designed for an automotive application. If not, try and find something with a U.V. inhibitor in it. Worst case, the spray can clear you find in WalMart's auto section is better than nothing.
