Yesterday while I was working going around and finishing up with cleaning snow and ice from the walkways at the places that we maintain I was talking on my cell phone just like half of the other drivers on the road while I was driving through the center or town.
I got pulled over and the officer said that the reason that he pulled me over was becasue I was using my cell phone without a hands free device. I was going to question him on why I was pulled over for talking on my phone when half of the other drivers on the road are using theirs without a hands free device and how he or the police dept can justify spending the reasources to enforce the law when half of the public does not follow it. In which case its obvious that they should give up on it becasue the majority of the population is protesting the law by not following it.
But he was so friendly and polite I just couldn't bring myself to offer my opinion.
Anyhow, its a $100 fine. However, if its your first offense which is the case for me he explained that if I buy a hands free device, check the not-guilty spot on the ticket and send it in with a copy of the receipt for the purchase of a hands free device.
Sicne they don't know what kind of phone I have what I'm going to do is go to Radio Shack buy the cheapest hands free device I can find. Take it home, make a copy of the receipt and then return the thing and send the copy of the receipt of the device with the ticket.
