My clutch bearing seems to be going dead. it is a 98csvt. if the bearing breaks, will it damage the spec clutch? I am waiting on headers and I was thinking that it might be a good idea of changing the bearing the same time when I do the rest of the stuff. Is it worth it for me to replace the bearing now, or should I wait until it stops working? And can i just replace the bearing, or should I change the whole clutch. I only have about 3-4k miles on it. I don't now what will be the right thing to do at this point:(

You put in a new clutch and skipped the throw out bearing??????? Nothing like paying 2x to get a job done....

well i put it in, and it was fine for a month. but then one day i started hearing this sound, chattering sound like a "pulley going bad" kind of a sound. And i read at some posts that its normal, others say the bearing is going bad...i dunno what's going on. But the clutch is not slipping. It grabs really hard.

Chattering is normal....all the cars with spec clutchs I have seen chatter.

ohhh no no, I changed the bearing too. I installed the one that came with the spec clutch. It's all new. it just sounds like a messed up pulley would sound...is that what you refer to as chatter?

Some transmission gear roll over noise is normal. It seems to be amplified with a spec clutch. It should never be all that noisy.

Clutch chatter is not a noise. It is a vibration when the clutch engages in gear. It is never normal.

If the noise is substantual, it could be the throwout bearing. It could also be from the trans input shaft bearing, although the noises are different.

You may need an experienced mechanic to listen to the noise to help you determine if it is normal.
