Dear Ford Contour Lovers,:help:

I am the part owner/Daily driver of a 1995 Contour Se. The first mod I have done was adding the SVT Exhaust. I bought one used from a very nice Gentleman from Milwaukee. I plan to change the Resonator with a Magna Flow 10435 (When ever it shows up). My next project will be to add a new Intake. This is were I could use some Good Advice. I have done the searching (By the way, SP Motorsorts website is down). I would like to change the Stock intake to try and increase the MPG. (I commute 80 miles a day). I really do not want to make it real loud, just more efficient. I am have also removed the Hood Liner from the car (The Big Black Thing). Is that going to be detremental, noise wise if I change the Intake? I am relying on your vast experience and past knowledge for some good advice. I would also like to know, has anyone put a K&N FPPK (or whatever), Model 57-2534 on their contour? It sems to me that it would work on mine. One other question, someone said that a short throw shifter wont work on a 95? Would someone please elaborate?

Very Respectfully,

Johnny 210

Ceg proven intake= Maf adapter and a KNN from ajusa.

Now removing the hood cloth, you will increase the sound from under the hood. The cloth is to keep engine heat inside the engine bay. Also to decrease sound coming from the engine.

Good luck with your new ride and welcome to CEG.

You won't be able to install a short throw in a 95 because is uses a rod shifter, rather than cables that the 96+ uses.

Oh.. and the hood liner isn't MEANT to keep heat IN the engine bay. Indirectly, you are sort of correct. It was "designed" for a reduction in noise levels outside of the hood, and as a secondary function to drop on to the engine in order to smother a fire (the plastic tabs melt and drops it on the engine)

As a tertiary effect, the liner would also lower center-of-hood temps to avoid peeling, cracking, fading of the hood's paint. However, after the vast majority of CEG has removed theirs (some going on 10+ years), then FORD removing it from the lineup sometime in 98, there have been no ill effects to the paint.

If you remove it you WILL notice a little more ambient noise (injectors ticking, etc). If you add an open air filter (K&N RU3530 and a MAF adapter) you will have a VERY noticeable increase in INDUCTION noise, especially on WOT. Normal driving will not be affected, with the exception of being able to hear the air being drawn in to the filter at idle.

I wouldn't.. personally... but whichever is a better decision for you.. :D

Your 99 was most likely built sometime in late 98.. obviously just before they removed them from the lineup.

It may have been right at the end of 98, or so.. thus giving MOST 99's a liner.
