Tranny Problems?

somewhere around 3200 RPMS (I can only assume you mean in 5th gear)

whats yours read?

yes in 5th gear. it reads that but my mom dont think that is right. could it be a slipping clutch?

No, its fine.

older fords, especially with a stick have very well been known to run at that high of an RPM on the freeway. my zetec tour ran at about 3000 when doing 70. The only reason why it ran at a lower RPM then your mom's duratec tour is because the final drive ratio is different in the zetec transmission. My brother had a 93 Probe GT, ran at 3300 RPMs when doing 70. I have a friend with an 01 cougar V6 5 speed, and its the same story. You get the picture.

Ask anybody here and they will say it runs at around 3100-3200 while doing 70 in overdrive. its common.

If you want to prove it to her that the clutch isnt slipping. have her go on the freeway in 5th gear doing 60, then floor it, if the clutch is slipping the RPM's would climb significantly faster then then in comparison to the car's speed.

How many miles are on the car?

More significantly, start to leave your street, get to about 10-15mph and place it in 5th. Floor it and the rpms should remain still.. if they raise more than about 100 rpm in 2 seconds then you are slipping.

Otherwise, you are seeing a relatively short gear ratio that is natural in the MTX-75 transmission.
