ok so i bought 3 quarts of mobil 1 atf mercon 5.....i couldnt find anything called a friction modifier. is it neccesary with the mobil 1?

ATF is not recommended any longer by Ford! RP Synchromax with nothing else or Ford Honey. Are you reading the old forums from 4 years ago or something?

I have used Redline MTL and Now have RoyalPurple Syncromax, both are very good fluids and work well for me. DON'T USE ATF

Although I agree that there are better fluids to use, ATF was factory fill and the recommended service fluid for nearly the entire production of the Contour. You didn't commit a great sin. Mobil 1 Mercon V will have a higher level of friction modifier that the original Mercon so additional friction modifier may not be needed.

My first choice would be Torco. Royal Purple has had good reports. Stay away from RedLine MTL.

ive had ATF in my car with friction modifier for like 10k miles now but dont do it! i ordered the torco stuff but i never got it because the guy i go through is in the hospital so im going to get ford honey for now.
