I do not drive the contour anymore, but my brother does. He called me last night and told me his headlights wouldnt work at all. I told him how to turn on the foglights and those do work so he was able to get home, but the headlights will not work at all. he says he looked at the fuses and everything seems fine. i searched but couldn't find an example of this problem happening to anyone else. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Any ideas where i should look next? car does not have any other electrical problems at all. thanks in advance for all your knowledge.

That happened to me in my Taurus, I replaced the turn signal switch and poof they worked again. You can test your blinker switch with a volt meter and some wire.

more details... everything but the lowbeams work. the highbeams, fogs, flashers, etc all function normally. and no fuses appear to be the problem. what do you think guys?

Relay 9 in the Power Distribution Box next to the battery or wiring from headlamp switch to R9.

mine did this to me a couple times. there was a tsb on the headlight switch so i had it replaced by ford. then even after they replaced it it still did it. all i did was turn the lights off and pushed in on the switch and then turned them back on. the switch was stuck in a midway spot where the contacts werent touching. once i pushed on it they came on. maybe this might help.

check the fuse

I blew out my passenger side fuse and I was driving with one HID, good thing it was the fuse :)

i have ha sthis same thing going on for about 2 months. what i do it pop the hood smack the fuse box and they come right on. i am getting a new relay on friday. i replaced the switch in the car nothing still did it. all the wiring in the fuse box looks good, plus since when you smack the fuse box they come on. i would say it is the relay. kinda glad i am not the only on this happened to. i will post once i get the relay as they have to order it it should be in by tuesday. another quick ? does any one know the part # for the day time running light relay as i really want this..

"Always do the cheap and easy ones first."

On a serious note, it could also be the connectors/wiring below the fuse box. Check if any are rusted or loose.

i did i took the bottom off the fuse box. every thing is tight in there. kinda sucks smacking the fuse box though. it is not like i am smacking the crap outa it just a light tap. well i hope this weekend i can get it fixed. i also gotta fix my heater the resister died. there is always something.

My brother took the contour into the shop yesterday. Turns out that somehow both lowbea, bulbs burnt out simultaneously. Sounds odd to me, but it was a cheap fix so what the hell!

ROTFL. None of us thought of doing that first. I guess everybody assumed that it was already checked out and working. And to think my signature says "Always do the cheap and easy ones first". :o

I would check the areas by the headlamp housing to see if water is getting into the connectors. I supposed both could burn out at the same time if water shorted them. Of course, one could have burnt out, did not get noticed and then the next burnt out and finally, "I can't see". :help:
