ok I'm not sure if this should be in aesthetics but i don't know were to put it. ok you know how they sell rear tow hooks for ricers? well i want one for the svt. not for looks (i would paint it black) but for the just in case factor. i was thinking it could bolt onto the existing tow hooks in the rear (are they strong enough?). and it would come just below the bumper. i bought a tow strap for our SUV last year. but i bet if you hook the strap up to the hook and pull your going to rip the bumper off. any input on this? i know i would have to make it myself.

When I bought my SVT with a blown clutch, I brought my tools and pulled the front bumper to prevent it from getting messed up. I towed it with just a tow strap behind my dads SUV.

well if i get stuck in the snow im not gunna want to pull the bumper. lol

I actually towed another SVT I bought with the tow strap through the lower mesh area on the front bumper. Just popped out the mesh and hooked it up to the subframe or something down there. I can't really remember what I hooked it up to but it was a solid hook up!

ok thanks reebs, but "if" i made a tow hook for the rear. would the existing tow bar mounts be strong enough?

Yes, they are plenty strong enough. And I was just trying to give you some options earlier in case you get stranded. You have a good idea for the tow hook and I wasn't trying to discourage you from going that route! :)

o i never thought you were. thank you for all your help. much appreciated. you may just save me from using a tow truck for the just in case factor. cheap insurance. if i make one this spring ill post pics up.

Yes, it is an experience. Awhile back when I had my escort, it died 3 hours from home when I was on vacation. My dad then brought his explorer and towed me down the freeway the whole way home at 70mph and only 5 ft from his bumper! Pretty scary when you don't have power brakes or steering. I really really had to pay attention! Also, when using a tow rope like that, the car being towed is supposed to stop the car towing... and that was not easy to stop a 4 or 5,000 pound suv along with the weight of my car all on small disc front brakes and rear drum brakes. And of course no power brakes too! We actually didn't use a real tow rope... we only had weak tie down straps that kept breaking when we accidently jolted them! Ahhh.... the dumb things we did. ;)
