Please help me i don't know what do ? I changed the fuel pimp, filter, air filter and cat. converter too. My car 2000 contour still won't start so i went and rented a scanner for autozone and it read p0305. My FNL said he cant reach the spark plug and the shop said its going cost me $$$ they have steps the need to do ! That a p0305 is just the first step!! :help: :help: WHAT DO I DO ????

thank u for reading this far.

Is it firing out of sequence or just not firing at all? If it's firing out of sequence it could mean that your coil pack (ignition coil) is out of wack and/or burnt out or your timing could be off (not likely if timing hasn't been an issue resently). if you're not getting any spark your spark plug/plug wire could be burnt out/ defective. I didn't catch what engine and transaxle you have and that would help to understand what could be going on. most put their ride in their signature.

what did the p0305 code say? it should have given a very brief discription of the malfunction (for example "catalyst lean" I know it wouldn't be that persay but it should say something).

c 5 misfire

c 5 misfire

I have a 2.5 L V6 it was backfiring when I'm i was accelerating and it would shake and was bumpy when I'm waiting for the light to change

Sorry I'm a lady and this stuff is VERY new to me, I have been reading ALOT lately !

THANK U !
S.
P.S All it said was P0305 (cylinders misfired detected) I borrowed (autozone) actron OB2 autoscanner !

Some good advice have been posted. I will add some more advice.

First of all, you shouldn't replace parts unless you know that is the cause of the no start.

"won't start". Is it cranking? (engine turning over). If yes, does it sound faster than normal? If it does, the engine is flooded (the engine lost compression). Sometimes, just pushing the gas pedal all the way to the floor will help start it. If it doesn't, try removing the Bank 2 (radiator side) spark plugs (cylinders 4, 5 and 6) and put a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder. Sometimes, this will help regain compression.

If it is cranking slow, then maybe it is a bad battery or bad starter.
Check wiring from battery to starter, alternator and battery to ground (especially the wire which goes under the battery tray).

A P0305 code by itself will not necessarily cause it not to start.

As for reaching the spark plugs, read the How to in the Duratec Maintenance-Read First.

Good call Tony.

I would also suggest you check the spark plug wires to make sure they are on the plugs & on the coil pack nice & snug.

The car is acting up, but it doesn't sound like this will be a big repair (based on the limited information you've posted).

I am in West Palm Beach, Florida if you'd like some help. I don't know if you're in this area, but I thought I throw that out there. CEGers like to help.

You're in L.A., so it looks like I won't be of much help, but you've got some good info to start with. Please let me know if you need more guidance or help. You can post here or PM me.

You can do it!

IT STARTED !!!!! BUT ITS SHAKING LIKE CRAZY WORKING ON 5 CYLINDERS, CHANGED SPARK PLUGS WIRESET IS NEXT!
I'LL CHECK BACK IN LATER TODAY THANKS TO ALL WHO PUT IN THEIR THOUGHTS AND KNOWLEDGE:shocked:

If you determined spark plugs, sparkpluggap, and SP wires are good, then test the ignition coil pack.
http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiB..._us/0900823d/80/1b/c4/02/0900823d801bc402.jsp

Make sure sparkplugwiring are in the correct order. Humor me by checking it twice (maybe thrice).

Note the 4-6-5 for the coilpack.

Firewall side
4- 6 -5 <--coil pack
3-2-1

1-2-3 <--engine
4-5-6
Radiator side

Spark plug gap is 0.054 inch. Remember, on this site, pre-gapped = wrong gap.

QUESTION: MY BACKUP LIGHTS DON'T WORK AND THEY SAID ITS NOT THE FUSE WHAT DO I DO NEXT? :help:

THANK U FOR UR KINDNESS AND ADVICE:o

" THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. ......QUESTION: DO I HAVE TO BORROW THE AUTO SCANNER TO REMOVE THE CODE OR DID THE CODE GET REMOVED WHEN THE CEL WENT AWAY ?"

No and yes.
You do not have to borrow or do anything. But if you insist on doing something, you may unplug Fuses 4 and 11 in the Power Distribution Box next to the battery for a minute or two. That erases the code-F11 and resets the PCM-F4.

"MY BACKUP LIGHTS DON'T WORK AND THEY SAID ITS NOT THE FUSE WHAT DO I DO NEXT?"

1) Change the fuse first (for $1, this is too cheap not to try. Or switch F23 with F24. After switching, your brake lights should not work if the fuse is broken and also-tambien-, you won't be able to take it out of Park.). If the light still doesn't work,....
2) Then (entonces) check/change one bulb. If it doesn't work,....
3) Then (entonces) check the wiring socket at the trunk lid. If it doesn't work,....
4) Then (entonces) wiring harness by drivers side rear seat ("fold" down the seat, if the car is one which has fold down rear seats, and see if the harness there is chaffed or frayed).

unplug the battery for 5 minutes, the car will lose it kam .code 11 isnt anything once the light goes off the code has been cleared, the car will keep a memmory of how many time each cylinder has misfired, if you look on the scanner youll probally see that more than one cylinder might have misfired before, or just do to the one cylinder that was. as long as your cel wasnt flashing your ecu didnt shut the cylinder down yet .

QUESTION: DO I HAVE TO BORROW THE AUTO SCANNER TO REMOVE THE CODE OR DID THE CODE GET REMOVED WHEN THE CEL WENT AWAY ?

NO. The code might be in a memory somewhere, but it will not affect your car at all. If the CEL is off, the car is running as it should.

QUESTION: MY BACKUP LIGHTS DON'T WORK AND THEY SAID ITS NOT THE FUSE WHAT DO I DO NEXT? :help:

Change the fuse anyway. Won't hurt to have a spare. If the lights are still out, check the bulbs. VERY easy to do yourself. You might even be able to get the guys at an auto parts store to check them & replace them for you if needed.

Enjoy the car!
