I took my car in to get the tires rotated, and the tech showed me how unevenly my passenger front tire has worn. The inside is bald and getting close to showing the wires, as the outside of the tire still has at least a quarter inch of tread. I will be getting new tires soon anyway, but what would most likely cause this? The tech said it was maybe an alignment issue, but my car drives straight as an arrow. It was only that front passenger tire, and I wonder if it's from my hard driving. See for the last six months or so, I have known that I would be needing new tires and so I have abused them a bit. Not that I go around doing burnouts, because that isn't the case. But there is this one turn in my apartment complex, where I'm just shifting into second gear and it's really tempting to turn the wheel and roast 'em. It's a gentle curve to the right, and I spin the tires for a second on that curve at least once a week. Could that be the culprit to the uneven tire wear? Or should I pay for a four-wheel alignment test, and hope the stealership doesn't bend me over? I definately want to get this figured out before getting new tires, but I'm not sure what to think. Thanks in advance.

A four-wheel alignment shouldn't cost you more than $70. If you're spending the money on a new set of tires, you might as well get the alignment to keep them all wearing evenly. The alignment being off, won't always cause the car to pull to the left or the right. It is often unnoticed, until you look at the wear of the tire(s). If it's just the front, you should atleast get a front end alignment, which is around $40.

True. The tech did say the rear was wearing unevenly as well. But when he was showing me the rear, I couldn't see where it was uneven at all. Maybe just because I don't have a trained eye to know what to look for before it's obvious.
