has anyone new done a hybrid 3L? Im in the middle of mine ($$$stuck$$$) trying to figure how i want to fill the extra oil returns low cost no worry. anyone got suggestions (and pics?)

Incase anyone doesnt know a "hybrid" 3L is the first way they did it with an older block 3L. they put the 2.5L heads (modified) onto the 3L short block running high compression (genius!)

Get the newer 2.5 heads then you won't have to block anything...
If you insist to plug the return holes tap the hole put a set screw with locktite and then put the jbweld on top

What would happen?

Your PCV system would suck in unmetered air and dirt/dust into the crankcase.
Consequently you'd get stuttering and surging under cruising conditions though it would run fine under full throttle.
Do to high rpm pressure you'd blow oil out those holes under full throttle and coat your exhaust manifolds with a nice oil film that would smoke nicely.
This would be a great way to gain attention on the road if you are lacking in that area. If that is okay with you, I'd suggest putting yellow stickers everywhere for attention and so you can go faster. :D

Seriously though all you need is to use some JB stick weld or regular weld and press itinto the hole, put a piece of clear strapping tape over it, then turn the engine upside down so the epoxyweld dries in place against the tape instead of running down the block. 8 hours later you can turn it upright, clean up any excess, and get back to assembly. 24 hours later it is fully cured.

so it IS, or is NOT necessary to block the return holes in the block?

Wow. :help:

he said insist, like it wasnt necessary. :help:

Even a pic of the filling in the '01 MM&FF issue. That is umm 6 years old now.
