Did I mention it's new?

I'm a big fan of Nissan these days. I'd like to have an Altima or a Maxima but they're both out of my price range. I can lease a Spec V for under $200 a month, it's a mid 15 sec. car with a factory LSD and handling grip to spare.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but have you driven a Mazdaspeed Protoge? Fun, reliable, TURBO, razor sharp handling, for 18K. I drove one at Mazda Rev-It-Up as was very impressed.

Open up the breathing, turn up the boost, and you've got a 250hp rocket with incredible handling and an LSD to put the power down (think high 13s with a reliable car under warranty).

Yea and a big boom if you turn it up on that car. None of the internals were upgraded from stock.

Cunningham did the turbo system on the MS Protege... no internal upgrades were done to the stock MP3 engine... more boost equals a very short engine life.

And Chris... the more and more I think about it, the Spec V does fit your taste in vehicles. Cheap car, big engine, notchy shifter... if I didn't mention Spec V in the previous sentence I could swear I was talking about a SHO.

I'm not talking cranking the thing up to 2bar or anything but just a couple of psi along with freeing up the breathing on the intake and exhaust. Anyways, I think a large FMIC would be a must-have on this car. The stock intercooler is pathetically small and about half blocked by the bumper.

I think the jury is still out on what the stock block can handle safely. If you blow it up, turn the boost back down and have it fixed under warranty.

Granted, a turbo will shorten the engine life on any car. I guess this really isn't my biggest concern given my choice in cars. A rebuild just gives me an excuse to upgrade.

Hahaha don't let that slobaru wagon go to your head or anything. I know it's more refined than a Nissan after all and I'm sure it'll smoke most Geo's on the road Actually I thought the Spec V shifted quite well. The seating surfaces did seem pretty sub par but that's supposed to be addressed for the '04 models. I've yet to drive an SVT Focus...I've driven Greg's ZX-3 many a time but I'd prefer a sedan to a hatch...plus the SVT is way down on TQ compared with the Nissan, and I'm still not impressed with Ford's quality control these days.
