i only have one set of pre amp outputs on my head unit. i want to run another amp for my door speakers. is there a way to do this without having to buy a new head unit? i have the JVC KD-LX111 headunit. thanks for any help ill get.

Yup, just get a couple Y-splitters. You can use the gains on the amps to adjust the front/rear fade (which you'll lose on the HU).

Which is the better method - running a splitter like above or - if your amp has preamp outs - running from those?

I would suggest through the amp.

I have done it both ways, and if I remember right, it was less trouble using the preamp on the amp.
