Does the Duratec have a balance shaft on the crank, and if so is it for controlling smooth idle only. I searched and found nothing.

Neither engine used on Contiques has a balance shaft.
Some Ford engines that do include some of the front wheel drive 3.8 V6, and the SHO V8.
