What they said about the engines and parts being stolen is totally true even though it sounds like a really high amount.
My Civic was actually stolen from Hartford overnight when I parked it. Came out in the morning to go to work and found nothing but broken glass and a scrap mark at the end of the driveway where it bottomed out on the body kit.
They found it one week later stripped of every aftermarket part I installed on it.
I didn't just give up and let the Hartford PD (who are a fuggin joke), tell me they would try to find my parts and obviously nothing would ever turn up.
I drove to the street where my car was found by PD, sitting in the ground with no wheels. Probably the worst street in the whole city. Found another late 80's, early 90's Civic, sitting there with my Konig Verdict wheels on it. I was in shock when I saw it. Thats how much they do not worry about the Hartford PD. They actually installed stolen parts from my car, onto a car they owned and parked it right at the same address.
So I called it in, PD said we needed to show proof that the wheels were mine. So I showed pictures, receipt of purchase, and info about a chunk of rubber missing on one of the tires (BFGoodrich Scorcher T/A). The police said we can go get the wheels from the people and they would assist by showing up and demanding they be given back.
My dad went with my uncle while I was at work, the guy said he didn't want to give them back. He offered to buy them for about $150-200. My dad said either you give me $800 cash right now, or I am taking it. The guy didn't have the money, so my dad took the wheels and left the guys car on blocks. Just like they left mine.
And oh yeah, 3 months after my car was stolen, and I had replaced it already with the SVT, I spotted a Honda CRX driving around with my spoiler installed on it. Went right into the Burger King drive thru next door to my job, as I was going to get food. I didn't do anything about it though because of the time that passed, and too much of a hassle.
