I am looking at getting into mutual funds but want to learn a little more about them. I thought about getting a book and I saw a few on ebay. I am just not sure which one if going to be the best on explaining it and all that jazz. I saw "Mutual Funds for Dummies" anybody read this? How is it? what do you recommend?

If you know nothing on them in general, I would say this is a good place to start.

Check out your local library as well. Generally you decide to want to go with one investment house or another and pick from their funds. The brokerage house will have literature for you to read on their funds which will explain their historical performance and fund type.

What is your current level of knowledge? If you're starting from scratch, this is likely a good place to begin. However, it is also likely to insult your intelligence if you know a bit (Dummies is very appropriate for this series).

I would consider your retirement plan as another source of information, they often have good educational tools about mutual funds and investment option types. Don't limit yourself to one investment house, unless you want few specialized funds and mostly passively managed funds (Index funds). Then pick the one with the desired specialized funds.

Before you buy anything, check out www.fool.com. The site is geared towards individual investors, but has a lot of info on mutual funds.
