I used to "try" and keep Cichlids but they all killed the other fish or other Cichlids until there was only one left. After that I gave up on them, stopped feeding him and maintaining the tank. Come back weeks later and he is still perfectly healthy. I started getting into Goldfish and gave my Cichlid to my friend, who got other same sized Cichlids to go with him, and after about 3 weeks, my fish I gave him was the only one left again. He just kills everything and will not die! LOL

You only eat them when they get too big for the tank  I started off with 1 55 gallon tank 6 months ago. Now i got 2 125 gallon tanks, 2 55's and a 75. Allvarious fish, from piranhas to africans to mollies.

I know what you mean. It can get addicting. BeforeI could drive I ws into them and had several 110 custome made aquariums in my parents basement along with many other smaller tanks.
