I just installed my opt. TB last night, and I LOVE the new found power. I'm guessing at LEAST 4 whp with the other modifications I have already. Unfortunately, when I take off in first gear and punch the rpms up to 4-5 grand, my rpms DON'T fall back down when taking it out of gear.
It freezes at the last rpm when I take it out of gear. In fact, the ONLY way I can come to a stop is by putting it back in gear and using the gears/clutch to slowly pull the rpms back down to idle. In fact, my car is idling at 2500 rpms. When I pop the hood, I can push the throttle piece w the coil/spring down and it will cause the car to fall back down to normal idle (1000 rpms).
It seems as if the plastic piece with the spring rapped around it is sticky or something and is having a hard time rotating. Other than that, does anybody else have any ideas why my rpms won't drop back down when I put the car in neutral. Matter of fact, when I rev it up in first gear and before I shift into second, my rpms will actually CLIMB up on their own a small bit before I shift to second.

I have pinpointed the problem as a bad spring in the TB. It seems to not have enough return tension to force the butterfly plate closed all the way, and sometimes doesn't have enough tension to even bring the rpms down. As a matter of fact, I was wondering why my gas pedal seemed so light and easy to push to the floor. As far as I know, this is the problem and I aim to fix it tonight by switching the opt. butterly plate, shaft, and screws into my old TB housing. Which, in turn, has always had an operable tension spring.

A dirty throttle body can cause the throttle plate to bind as you are describing. Pull the air intake tube away from the throttle body and take a look. If it's dirty, clean it. If you havn't cleaned it in the last 15,000 miles or so, clean it anyway.

Don't buy a new IAC until you try to clean the one you have! Save the $50. There is plenty of info out there on cleaning your IAC.

If I read the post correctly this is a newly installed opt. throttle body, so it should not be dirty.

Your probably right. Somehow I thought he was talking about a new intake.
Now I'm beginning to think it may be a throttle cable problem. Not hooked up right or somehow not allowing the throttle to fully close. The IAC should be checked too, as others have posted.
