someone else also mentioned verifying the burner works so when i go to moms tomorrow i will try it there and see what happens. if the problem follows then i will be getting a new burner. i cannot put the burner in my computer as i have a laptop. in my mind, barring a settings error of some kind which i find highly unlikely at this point, having two completely different programs fail leads me to believe what i have is not a software problem but rather a hardware problem.
