So I'm lloking at purchasing an '06 and had a few questions for those on here that own GTO's.
My total out the door price would be about $31,500 after rebates and including a 5 yr 100K extended warranty, tax, and title. Does this sound like a fair price for the Los Angeles area? So far it seems to be a decent price from all the price quotes I have received.
Also, what kind of real world mileage are you guys getting? I know this is not the type of car you buy when worring about gas mileage, however I am just trying to figure out the real world cost to own this car in comparison to its competitors in my shopping. I live and commute in the Los Angeles area, so 80mph drives are very not very common for me, especially since my commute seems to take me by what seems to be every Highway patrol in southern Califorinia. I plan to keep the car relatively stock, except for a CAI, short throw shifter and suspension upgrades. With similar mods, and stock, what kind of real world milage are you guys getting?
I also have heard this car requires a special oil filter only available through the dealer. Is this true?

My friend says that when she is driving (a.k.a. granny style), she pulls 30MPG out of an 04.
Now her b/f on the other hand (who is like most of us, drives faster than average), pulls 18-20MPG.
So it's not too bad, and all depends on how heavy your foot is...

The '04 with the LS1 is rated at 28 mpg for highway. '05 and up has the LS2 rated at 25. These are two different engines seperated by 50hp and 0.3 liters.

I'm in stop and go traffic to and from work. 12mpg. No different than in my V6 03 Explorer, V6 97 Explorer or SVT Contour. Highway I've gotten upwards of 30mpg in 6th gear.
That's a pretty good price for the market. Are you looking to buy new only? Lightly used can be had for good prices. PM me if you have any questions or anything.

I dont know if i'd get the extended warranty if your going to do suspension upgrades, it may void it. Make sure you get any mods that you cant uninstall, cleared in writing before you get the warranty.

Warranties cannot be refused or voided unless dealership can prove that the source of the problem was/is the mods.
I suggest reading up on the Mag-Moss Warranty Act and SEMA.

Suspension mods would be a strut bar and springs. This would not void the drivetrain warranty, which is my main concern, as I tend to put alot of miles on my car.
Thanks for the info Pete. That's better mileage than I get in my SVT.

Wow, those are pretty good numbers for the size of the engine. I guess I was just ignorant in assuming it would be a constant gas hog regardless of driving conditions. I might consider the GTO as a next car after all.

No way will a 6.0 liter 400 hp car get 25 mpg. The automatic even has a $1300 gas guzzler tax. Go here www.gtoforum.com and they will answer your questions.
