So Ive searched around on here and Im just trying to gain some assurance before I drop more $ trying to solve my excessive EGR flow CEL.

Ive read pretty much every pertaining post about this CEL and Im pretty sure my dpfe has kicked the bucket.

Ive tested my valve with the vac test and it seems to be working propely. What makes me think that the problem is DPFE is the fact that the CEL seems to turn on while the car is idling.(seems like a sign from what Ive read on here). I used to have some idle issues but that was caused by a lean side (CEL). Yet that was cured with a easy MAF cleaning. Then I was back to only a excessive EGR flow.

Also the CEL tends to turn off at times and turn right back on. Now if it was the valve/egr itself, then it would always be on since it's a mechanical piece. Where as a sensor can seemingly have it's good days and bad days like a sick patient.

The car has 85K+ on it so it seems like it should be done anyways. Just trying to assure myself this possibly is the right thing being that I hear it's a pain to reach.

Thanks

Have you tried cleaning the EGR ports? i had the same problem the CEL pointed to the EGR but after cleaning i got another code pointing the DPFE.

there is a how/to that u can search for the cleaning

I am going to do that along with the DPFE replacement. Its just that it seems that the clogged ports lead to the eventual death of the DPFE.

So if it's the ports clogged, chanches are that my dpfe is messed up as well.

Im leaning towards it being the DPFE, and if it isnt it prolly would fail soon anyway so why not replace it.

They go pretty quickly. It takes just a hint of moisture. I've heard cases of some going every 20k. It has been revised by Ford. I think the new ones are plastic.

yes this is the case as I recall

you are correct, if you manually applied vacumm to the egr and it died at idle then it is the DPFE sensor and it will fix the problem, I know as it happened to my car also

I've had 3 CELs in my SVT's 6 years...every time it has been a DPFE (once it was two of them).

They seem to go every 25,000 km.

$120 little suckers.

OUCH!

Only $50 south of Hockey land.

I'm on my second with a spare (plastic one from the 3L) sitting in the garage.
