I would be the first to admit that I don't get into aftermarket car audio, and am happy with the stock system in my car. But in years past I have worked on friends cars and replaced the stock systems with aftermarket stuff.

My question is this....every factory speaker I've taken out has a black woven grill cloth on it, but I've never seen an aftermarket speaker with grill cloth attached to it. Assuming the automakers won't spend a penny more than they have to on speakers, why do they spec their speakers with the black grill cloth, when higher quality aftermarket manufacturers evidently don't see the need for it?
