I read in this Motor Trend's issue Ford plans on using the turbo, direct injection 2.3 I-4 from the Mazdaspeed Mazda 6 and swapping it in the SVT Fusion. Supposedly under Jon Coletti SVT was to be specific to Ford and cars and truck that would be serious performance minded. The products speak for themselves. Now that hes out of the picture and that Hau guy has control, I wish Hau wouldve left the product strategy the same. I love my naturally aspirated SVT..it kicks ass out of the box. Knowing if I want to upgrade it to turbo,s/c its just gonna kick more @$$. Im not bashing it. I just thought they wouldnt follow the crowd. Im slightly disappointed unless they can give a high hp or tq a la WRX STI EVOIX 275-300 for one helluva good price, which SVT has been good at so far. Anyone else have thoughts?

Dude Im not talking about Mustangs and F150s. Im talking about Taurus SHO==>Contour==>Fusion. If they wanna do turbo so be it but wheres the uniqueness. I thought SVT was great for their own product, not a Mazda 6 complete makeover. They already have the chassis...now the engine? Unless they can give more bang for the buck or make this better than the Mazdaspeed Mazda6 I wouldnt consider it. Turbos and insurance costs suck for one. The Mazdaspeed6 has about a 27k sticker price and it weighs too much to perform under that 270 hp. Fat, expensive, and underwhelming. Maybe my antique, to today standards, SVT tour can give it a run for value, price, and speed.

I read that article. As i remember it, it was Motor Trend's SPECULATION that Ford may build a Fusion using the Mazda6Speed's engine. Actually it was more like MOTOR TREND WOULD LIKE TO SEE FORD USE THE MAZDA3SPEED'S ENGINE IN A FUSION.
Maybe we didn't read the same article.

McRee Ford had SVT's on the lot when we bought our SE, stickers were in the 23K range, more than we wanted to spend at the time but if I knew then what I know now, I would bought one. I didn't know performance than, just economy.
Also, some time back, Ford was saying that the SVT badge would only be for higher end models with mid-range vehicles getting the ST badge.

The window sticker may have said 23-24k but the selling price was not.
Poor resale before it was even resale.
I preordered my 2000 SVT and paid under 21k with tax, title, and license. (which adds 7-9% so figure that out!)
Including the interest paid over the 2 years it took to pay off the loan I still paid well under MSRP.
Good thing I'll never sell it because it's maybe worth half that and always dropping.
Oh well. It's fun to drive and it's not like it's an investment.

This is a repost times 15 or 20...

MSRP for the Contour SVT was $24,500. Actual selling price isn't terribly relevant because that more relates to the specific market at the time.

Still don't understand why from the beginning Ford didn't use the 3L in the CSVT. Well, rather I probably do understand...cost but what a hell of a performer it would have been at the time if they did.
