I gotta get a ticked for a modified exhaust signed off....
Anyone know where there is a State Referee station around San Jose? Can I just go to the police station?
Thanks!

a friend of mine got a ticket for the same thing he said he had to go to a Referee where they put a db meter near his exhaust to see if he complied with proper noise laws.

i dont think your car complies

My exhaust makes a very low growl but not TOO loud. Ive heard a stocked Saleen Mustang sound and sounds very LOUD. Why dont they get ticketed? Ive heard those ZZ TOP guys riding Harleys with high pitched exhaust that literally makes me go deaf for a few mins. How they get away with it?

they dont.... i asked a friend who has a custom chopper, he's owner of an exhaust shop who even ddid some work for Jessy James in Monster garage, told me all bout his run ins with the law. Said once he was driving around costa mesa and a cop pulled him over. made a big deal about his bike, and his helmet, almost had it towed away when he talked back to the cop, the cop was a punk like that. Saleen only sounds loud when its reving above 5500 RPM, for test they have you rev to about 3000-4000 rpm, they got my homi when he installed his magnaflowz...105 dbz @ 4000 rpm, his stock setup made i think around 90 dbz, but that was 3 years ago, maybe they changed the rev ratings. A new law (27150.2 VC) does not require police to use a sound meter to test for excessive noise. A citation is now based upon the officers judgment. just FYI

it all depends on the citation number the officer gave you. ive been to the state referee 2 times and passed 2 times. both times i had to do a smog check. and a visual inspection. the way you can reach a state referee, is by calling the number that they gave you. it should be a sticker on the back of your ticket that the cop should of put. most of the times they are located at city colleges. so just try to put all ur stock parts on your car, and if u can do a pre smog somewhere else.

If you have your stock parts, I would just plop those back on. This relatively new CA "Referee" BS is so ridiculous and a real PIA!
