Guys have master the ATX to MTX swap. A few can do the 3.0L swap in their sleep. What is next? A full restoration of an E0 SVT? Where does the Contour/Mystique go from here?

Wouldn't you think the 3.4L V8 would fit in a Tour, since they put them in the SHO Taurus? cuz the 3.0L V6 they had in the Taurus, and the 3.0L will also fit a Tour.
Oh and for those who know about the Cam problems on the SHO, they've got that problem solved, my dad had a 99 SHO and he always went to www.v8sho.com for all his info. and this guy welded the cams so they wouldn't turn and my dad had that guy weld the cams, and the car ran a lot better too.
Just a little F.Y.I.

Too many technical hurdles with what I wanted to do. No easily available computer would manage a CD4E and a V8 (especially with VCT!)

The 3L Jag engine will be easier, and still have room leftover for a turbo

However, the AJ8 or LimaV8 WILL fit in that engine bay with no big problems.

3.4V8 SHO engine is crap.

I'm just focused on keeping mine running.

Totally different motors. If you haven't noticed, there's a lot more room under the Taurus hood with the 3.0L than there is under the Contour hood with the 3.0L(2.5L also for that matter, as there's no size difference). the 3.4L is just flat out too big.

Welcome to the new millenium, this is old news.

The rims I ordered and will be here Tuesday!! Then some suspension related shtuff such as putting on the H&R's, the Aussie bar in the future, and strut bars. Don't get me wrong, theres a whole list of [censored] to do to the tour, but it will be done!

I can't even change the rear bank plugs with my 3L oval port manifold bolted on. Fug trying to get a small displacement V8 in there.

5.0 rwd
Posted By: elraido Re: So What Is Next For The Contour? - 04/01/05 02:30 AM
why wouldn't someone just buy a mustang if they wanted a 5.0 rwd?

Insurance is less on a Contour SE.

Dual engines!

Two tweaked 3 liters one under the hood and one under the trunk!

if that is the only thing you can come up with.....geeeeez. lol I am thinking the cost of converting the car to that would be a little more that what it would cost to insure a mustang

Because its different and would be fun

Focus with 03 cobra engine is i think like 50 grand. why buy that when you can get an actual mustang for... less than 30.

Focus would be a sleeper, and a shitload of fun to drive

Someone has been around the VW Scricco guys they do that for fun. All I want is AWD.... and a turbo or nice built motor.

awd + turbo = my next car

I was thinking the same way but I cant help it I just love the looks of the tour's and for some reason don't want another car even if its that much faster or better.

Yeah and the crankwalk issue makes most owners of them want to cry too - hence why I sold my 97 DSM for the SVT!

That $50k is a joke. A grassroots guy could do the whole thing for under 10k, I'd guess.

The "demo" was 50k because they went out and bought a brand new Focus and ordered a brand new crate SVT Cobra motor from Ford, etc.

You could buy a used Focus and drop in a more mundane 5.0, and if you are handy with a welder you could do much of the fab work yourself.

Better yet if you buy a whole Mustang parts car and sell off parts to recoup some cost. There'll be a lot of Focus parts that won't go back on the car, either.

And so on...

The whole 5L swap thing came up with The Tempo-Topaz website when I stilled owned that thing. Granted that the Tempo and Tour are not the same platform. But they decided that it was just impossible (mainly engine bay size)
Posted By: The Five-Oh! Re: So What Is Next For The Contour? - 04/01/05 08:40 PM
Well for the Focus V8 thing, there's a kit that requires no welder or real fabrication at all, it's all "bolt in" Then of it, buy a $10,000 focus, build or buy and V8 for $10,000, and that'd be alot for a V8, then put em together and you got a V8 Focus with an unbeatable power to weight ratio for $20,000
