For $3250.00 I'd just keep my 200 ponies and
do a lot more with that money. I mean, 80 to 90 hp gain.....well it is just not worth
that much money to me.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see someday a supercharged SVT Contour and how it will performed.
Guess I'll save the money for other stuff
On a different note, do you have any idea abou the torque figures??
I hope SHM comes up with a performance gain sheet.
Later,

Ya, and add another couple of grand to buy and install a Quaife and a beefed-up clutch.

It would be worth it if you could afford it, you'd surprise a lot of cars with a sleeper like that.

I, however, can afford no such thing.

Call me crazy, but it has taken them
FOREVER to make one for the SVT, and if it
took them this long, I wonder if it's gonna
be reliable.

I remember them having a LOT of problems
trying to get it to work safely because of
the high compression, and that's not
something I wanna hear when buying a SC.

I'm thinking.....

$1300 for Quaife
$500 for clutch
$600 for install for above two
$3300 for SHM SC

= close to $6k. No thanx, I'll pass.

But to those that already have the Grizzly
and Quaife, it's not a bad deal. But me
personally, I'll save $6k towards my FFR
Coupe.

This is the exzact reason we will never see a cossie here or for that matter any other suped up product. I dont want you guys to think I am railing on you, but for months and months always no s/c for svt now there is one and no thanks is all I hear. I am suprised they even made it at all.
May I remind you many people got the SVT in the 20 K area so ya s/c $3200, quaiffe $1200
clutch $400 install your looking at $6000.00 more money then I have right now (for car goodies) and its alot, but that puts my car with all those parts and a set of Konis, and baer breaks or hell even the AP racing set up and I am still only looking at the price of a new 323 BMW $31,000.00 may I also remind you the cougar that was fitted with the s/c had more then enoughf to embarass the hell out of far more exspensive cars.

So buy a used SVT 13000 add 7k in parts and your into it the price of a new Accord. but please dont become naysayers now.

Screw the naysayers!!! I will have a forced induction SVT Contour by SZ '01 for all to see!!! I have the money and I want a fast SVT Contour! Not a fast something else!

Though I will want to see the dyno plot for the SHM and wait till around Feb/Mar to see if a better unit comes out...

But let there be no confusion...when I show up to SZ '01 my SVT will have a super or turbo!

I would be all over a kit, I just don't have the cash handy (getting married, less than 2 weeks) or time.

Shoot, if I had the cash and time and workspace, I'd be doing my own sc or turbo setup.

Well guys, I have to part company with the enthusiasts on this one and
say I just can't personally justify $6K more into this car, which at best,
is worth $14K used. The new Subaru WRX with 220 AWD horsepower
will hit the shores in the spring and chipped, you're looking at darn near
280hp (with the usual intake, exhaust, etc). This is a car with an established
track record of being able to handle that amount of power whereas the SHM
to me, on the Contour, is a crapshoot. I'm not prepared to be a $6K guinea
pig for Mr. Hyland. I think a few grand into the car is certainly justifiable, if
only to squeeze the most naturally aspirated power out of an otherwise, finely
tuned engine, but I've never really been a fan of dumping large sums of money
into items that depreciate. I suppose it's because of my age, and I have less
years left to recover from the folley of such financial decisions. If I had $6K
lying around for mods, I'd probably invest it. This is entirely my own decision
and I say for those with the $$$, "go for it," but in these parts, there isn't much
competition out there to race with, short of the occasional ricer, and to spend
so much more when the current level of performance is sufficent enough to
humble 8 out of 10 cars I come in contact with (this isn't tuner country), makes
about as much sense as a 200mph car parked at Key West. Again, not to offend others choices, but I'll pass on this one and opt for showroom performance (re: Ford Lightning, Audi S4, new WRX, etc...IOW, something
with a warranty).

I hope you all know SHM is in Canada. That price is in Canadian Dollars. Ie that is about $2200 U.S.

For the person who asked about the WRX, it is supposed to be out very early in the new year. Most likely it will come with the 220HP spec engine.

A little off track, but people are talking about compression and all that jazz. Instead of adding a supercharger (tempting, but too rich for my blood), couldn't we just bump the compression a bit (maybe to 11:1)? We are using premium fuel on an SVT, and so it should be able to support a better than 10:1 compression.

I am looking forward to this but I fear it may be priced high. Heck, just look at how they priced the new 6-cylinder Outback - the MSRP on that is $40k Cdn. No thanks, I'd rather get an AWD Passat and still have money left over!

I'm hoping, but trying not to get my hopes up too much.

Did anybody call SHM and find out how the kit was tested - have they actually put one on a car, stressed it on the track a little and racked up 1000 miles or so? This would be a minimum expectation. That 80-90HP gain suggests the boost is probably on the high side 7-9psi? Was the stock computer, cooling and oil systems ok? Detonation issues? They should be able to answer these questions if the kit is available. Just curious but I hope they did it right- if shes strong enough would love to see a S/Ced, Quaifed out SVT jump some unsuspecting M3 and administer a spanking. Could videotape it and sell as a porn film.
