Well, it wasn't so wacky at all, except for some Job1 quality when I found one of the bolt for the WP was cross threaded in. I cleaned up both sides with a tap and die, so I was good to go. Onto the pics.... 1. To the guy who said to remove the battery, thanks. That's all you really need to do to get at the WP. Here's a pic of "Ole Crappy". 2. pic of the new one from the top. Check out that fine tensioner... 3. side view of the new one installed. Wait! there's a bolt missing!!! Oh here it is in the die... 4. There, all done. 5. Yes, I live in a construction area, but as God as my witness, I will clean that engine someday... Top view of whole engine. Cover and battery still removed... 6. For Sale: Ford OEM Waterpump...

Great pictures. This should be very helpful for anyone who has not tackled this problem yet.

I'm replacing mine soon (vowed to do it this summer; that leaves August left... ). These pics will help! Thanks!

I replaced both of my wps after failure, but only removed tensioner, not battery. Removed wp by lowering since not enough space to bring it up and out.
You may wish to post to the wp failure thread, it's sorta become the guest book:

I cleaned it last year, but it's no use. too much dust and construction. The last house on my street is being built (woouldn't you know it is the one across the street!?!?!).
Hopefully, I'll clean it before the summer is up!!

I grabbed the pulley wheel and the impeller and reefed on it. It seemed as tough as nails. Maybe it wasn't made on Friday or Monday?

A quick tip on breaking the seal: Slip a flat tip screwdriver behind this tab just below the bolt hole (there is a cooresponding tab on the other half of the pump) and turn. The pump splits open like a $10 whore (yes, I paint quite a picture)...
