i have a 2000 ford contour se sport v6 5spd whats the highest u guys would go on the rpm daily under 5k or over i don't want to kill my duratec it has 47k on it i use synthetic every 3k

It does not hurt the engine to use it's entire powerband. I would use it as much as you'd like.

Only thing it really kills is milage lol. I would avoid however running it full range and then just putting it away. IN other words, if you do some hard driving, take some time and drive gently, shifting early and being gentle with everything before shutting down.

and what would that do?

Enable internal parts to cool off, excess oil to drain, remaining fuel to be burnt, settle the engine down. Ever so the race car stops immedieatelly after a flying lap?
