I'm not going into the gory details here, but those of you w/
original exhaust  might want to check their bolts
on the cat to cat-back joint. Duratec is kinda loud if you open
it up like that...

anyway I now have two bolt heads stuck on the cat side. and I
can't freaking take them out. hammer and wd-40 didn't do the
trick. should I consider heating?

we are talking about my '98 mind you. two bolts between Y and
the cat are absolutely rust free and in excellent shape. somebody
saved another $.0000034 per car by putting ****ty grade bolts
in the back. thank you f*rd.

the main cat seems to be in good shape... so tempting...
so tempting... oh, never mind laugh

'4" cut off wheel' on the heads, then knock them out of the flange and replace with nuts & bolts...no big deal...look at most exhausts..they dont use ARP hardware..!!!!

the heads are flush w/ the flange, so I can't cut them off confused

yeah, that was the idea, but the stupid bolts are frozen (or velded) in the flange and would not budge...

Mine went at 2 years, 40K miles, and Ford wouldn't cover it. 2 year old car and the exhaust falls off? All the pipes were fine, just the bolts. WARNING COST CUTTING AT WORK mad

My advice is to drill-out or cut-off the old nuts (they are welded to the cat side flange) and replace with stainless nuts/bolts/washers. Remember to get a new gasket.

Add and few banged knuckles, stir, and enjoy!

What he said.. I had to cut off the catback then drill out the bolts from both sides of the cat flange to get em out. Replace with entirely new nuts and regular bolts and washers. Got Drillbits? laugh
good luck,

Chris.
