so today I took a tour of the Oklahoma City hub and scheduled an interview for next week. I applied for a loader/unloader and I was told that is where everyone starts. I was just wondering how many CEG'ers work or have worked for UPS and how the expierence is/was. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

oh yeah, I now understand why I get a lot of packages in bad condition.

yes i work in southnewengland, part of delivery center management. it is pretty tough getting your foot in the door. getting to a ft position is quite tough. lots of pt positions the loader/unloader is pretty underpaid imo but does get very good health benefits and some tuition reimbursement help for just a pt job. loading/unloading is a pretty demanding job physically. believe them when they tell u that. overall i dont enjoy my work and want to see if i can switch to another position (which is hard to do also). for now i cant give up the tuition reimbursement and health benefits for at least 2 years. then i'm likely quitting to start at what i'm going to school for. very few positions at ups that arent stressful and constantly under pressure.

A good friend's dad has been with UPS for.. an unknown amount of years. Let's just say over ten years. He's been able to suppport his family of two kids and a wife for at least that long, so I'd say it's -enough- pay, but he's been hurt a few times. From what I hear, getting hurt is real easy on the job.

yeah, it only starts at 8.50 an hour here in OKC which is not enough to me for the work involved but i'm in it for the benefits and the $3000 a year for college but I was told 75% of people they hire quit within 6 weeks.

My dad has worked for UPS for like 25 years now. The benefits are great. All I know is our insurance is basically the best you can get. Medicine, health, dental, eye care is all great too.

It all depends if you are planning on being there for a long time or not. My dad has no problem with it but I have a friend who hates working PT.

My dad used to drive Feder but now he moves around trailers in the yard. Lets just say about $40 bucks an hour isnt too bad for that and he gets about 2 hrs of overtime pay a day.

My sister has been doing it now for several years. The hours suck, but she likes them. She's now a supervisor.

getting to this level will take a LONG time. that is one of the sweetest positions but its seniority and will take forever. turnover for loading/unloading is pretty high. its a crappy job with great benefits and should pay $10 minimum to retain people but what do i know. as a loader/unloader you might be able to start doing some saturday air driving to get some experience driving if u have any desire to become a ft package driver

Yeah my dad has been there a while. He is a union Steward as well so he is more well known. This will take him out of the typical UPS job and into higher positions within a year or so.

I used to about 4 years ago. I got paid $8.50/hr to throw boxes as fast as i could. Which was never fast enough. also in the begining i was on call, for the 4-8am shift. Nothing like working all day, going out till last call and getting home to find a message on your machine that you need to show up to UPS in 5 min. Might be why I didnt last, but drivers make great money. Just something to think about.
