Clarkson takes an NSX around Laguna Seca in GT4 and then for real.

Hope it's not a repost, I searched for "Top Gear NSX" and came up with nothing.

Yea i watched the whole episode, earler today, and i tell you what, clarkson is a pretty good gt4 driver, cause after the show, i took a bone stock nsx and after 5-6 laps i got my time down to 1:40.3(without tcs and acs) and that was a a pretty flawless lap. So a 1:41 is pretty good. The double apex turn 1 and the corkscrew are tricky. those two turns can be + or - 4-5 seconds a lap.
I would have realy liked to see what the stig good have done around the track in the real car, i bet he would be close to 10 sec. faster than clarkson.

i wonder why almost every automotive publication or related broadcast hes done this. Played GT4 and then took the real car. they all say the same thing. GT4 is fun but not really all that close to the real thing

It is pretty well done for a video game. There are some factors that aren't spot on because lets face it... the technology isnt quite here yet to make it absolutely perfect... One of these days it will be though.

If you read the GT4 book, that's exactly what it says. They want to do more with it, but simply can't because of the PS2's hardware limitations. The next version is supposed to do even more with the power of a PS3 behind it.

The PC NEEDS a racing game of that caliber... and a pc could handle anything they would want to add to it... i wish they would finally cater to us pc gamers and make a gt for pc.

Along those lines, TOCA Race Driver 2 is good for pc... theres damage and cool cars... but you cant just take any car around any track... it has to be part of that series. and personally i would like to take a DTM car around Bathurst but cant in the game. anyways, TOCA 3 is coming out and it looks fantastic in the screenshots...

Its hard to tell which is more realistic... because in Leguna Seca, i can take some corners flat out in a Ford GT in TOCA that i simply cant in GT4 with the same car. You can definatly throw the cars weight around better in TOCA than GT... but maybe thats not as realistic... anyways, before i go on and write a novel </rant>

A video game will never be true to life. You don't have mechanical parts that wear over a race, or the way a tire responds to differing driving types or wear, let alone the g forces and how different people respond to it.

All in all, its a game and its fun, that's the most important part.

not true...all the things you mention can be simulated exactly - the problem is having enough processing power to do all that on the fly.

"Aston Martin DB9 - that's not a racing car, that's just pornography"

more true words have never been spoken.
