Well, after some lengthy discussions with my wife, my son and my extended Family, I've decided that my life in Human Services is not going anywhere, so I've enlisted in the Air Force Reserve (no, I'm not kidding).

I've already taken the ASFAB test, and scored a 92 (which pretty much allows me to pick just about anything for an AFSC) so, I've decided to go into "Aerospace Propulsion", which is Air Force speak for Jet Mechanic. I want to be certfied as a Flight Engineer, but, I have to progress through this AFSC before I can test for F.E.

I am trying to get my departure date moved up from March of this year to the end of this month for Basic Training in Texas (Lackland AFB in San Antonio). I hope to come back in August of this year, certified for C and D class (C-5A and C-130 repair) mechanics. I've HATED what I've been doing for the last few years (even though the $$ is OK) and my Wife has given me her blessing (it doesn't hurt that two of her three brothers, her uncle and Father are in the Reserve) to do this. Anyone know of anyplace that is looking for qualified Jet Mechanics? I'm trying to get an Active Reserve slot at Westover in Chicopee, so we'll see what happens.

This should be either Humbling or amusing-having to train with a group of 18 year olds through "Boot Camp"-wish this "old man" luck

Wow, this all sounds like a pretty exciting job! and you probably pick up a good dose of practical skills as well.

People think I cut up dead bodies all day (I don't). At Thanksgiving, I was handed the carving set since I had the most experience with 'cutting meat'.

Congrats and good luck!
